The Label said: An album of live-recorded instrumental music in two sets. in set one, califone improvises to film loops projected by jeff economy and carolyn faber - music reacts to images as images react to music. in the second set, califone performs a live soundtrack to the extraordinary puppet/animation film the mascot (1933) in which the dustbins of paris disgorge skeletal demons for a midnight fęte...for this recording, califone is rebecca gates, gillian lisee, tim rutili, joe adamik, ben massarella and jim becker. recorded mixed and edited by joe ferguson. My opinion: Not so strong as the two other albums, but worth hearing. alie

Instrumental music recorded live at the block cinema in Evanston, IL November 3rd, 2001. In the first set Califone improvise music to film loops by Jeff Economy and Carolyn Faber. In the 2nd set, they perform a soundtrack to Ladislav Starewicz's puppet film "The Mascot".

Their label named the style of Califone Industrial Folk. That makes sense to me, because they have nothing to do with country/cowboy romantics. In fact the musical base is country, therefore its far away from it. Outstanding is the instrumental minimalism, which creates a strong intesity of expression that opens the ears wide - until every subharmonic wave is clearly noticeable. Nevertheless itīs never boring. The atmosphere of raw feelings in the song donīt allow that. Together with Sin Ropas and Grandpaīs Ghost currently the best from this genre of psychedelic. alie
