I met this band by chance, strolling through MP3.com. That sound is definitly pure sixties, but did you know them before? Well, not here in good old Germany, at least not me. But it's never too last. The band is:
Rod Prince-Lead Guitar and Vocals,
Roy Cox-Bass and Vocals,
Todd Potter-Lead Guitar and Vocals, David " Fuzzy " Fore-Drummer-Vocals.

A Gathering Of Promises by Bubble Puppy represents the hard rock side of American psychedelic music, greatly representing much of the Texas scene itself, which included the likes of Josefus, Joseph and the Moving Sidewalks, and adding a dash of the Hendrix inspired acid guitar. Yet, this album still has enough of a sixties feel to satisfy psych purists. A truly excellent album, full of great tunes and intelligent lyrics, Bubble Puppy would later evolve into Demian, repeating this formula for another worthwhile album, and then later in the late 70s they would evolve into Sirius, a very disappointing band playing less than average rock n roll.

If anyone out there is interested in Bubble Puppy, they should know that they were stand at the dawn of what it means to be psychedelic music, They were originally on International Artists, the same label as The Thirteenth Floor Elevators. They are one of the most unknown from that Texas scene...and I have to say they are not just good they are classic...must have. I realize that another viewer didn't like the album, but I would suggest thay are not hearing with new ears, because every song,in a very short time, transports the listener.
I had never heard of Bubble Puppy until just recently. A friend from another psych group's website mentioned them and trusting his taste in music, I decided to buy the cd and give the group a listen. Was totally blown away by what I heard! Felt like I had come back home and knew them forever. Every song got better and better. Got hooked on their unique style of sounds. Bubble Puppy is truly AWESOME!!!

I was listening to "My Morning Jacket" and it made me want to listen to "Bubble Puppy- A Gathering of Promises."I'm listening to the whole album right now. I often would just listen to "Hot Smoke and Sassafras" and take it off.
This an unknown gem if you're in the right mood. Sometimes the singing is two sweet; but as it continues, I realize the guitar-player is original. His riffs are muscular and creative at the same time.

Yes it is sixties music, late sixties(68-69) I know this because I bought the 45 rpm record, when it first came out. Yes I still have it, and it's mint, only played it maybe 6 times. I liked it because of the sound, especially the intro guitar licks. I did notice that the list is missing so many other groups & bands. Electric Prunes, Ultimate Spinach, Electric Flag, People, United States Of America, Rotary Connection, and so much more. Thanks !

Along with the 13th Floor Elevators, Bubble Puppy was at the forefront of underground music in Texas. Bands from that era were eager to experiment with sound and techinque. While Puppy didn't get the recognition or the money they deserved, they continued to play music because of their love for it and management took full advantage.Any collection of 60's music is not complete without "A Gathering of Promises."

my uncle was in Bubble Puppy, (Todd Potter) and my dad and other uncle (Travis and Jerry Potter) were the founders of Lone Star Sound, their origional sound eningeers. I know their music, but I had no idea that they were as famous as they are. Did you know that they're in the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame? I didn't. It's nice to see them recognised. Thank you.
