Formed in London in 1987, The Chemistry Set consisted of Ashley Wood, Guitars, Vocals. Paul Lake, Lead Guitar and Vocals. David Mclean, Drums,Vocals. Henry Taprell, Bass

They played regularly in England and live were a cross between The Misunderstood, Pink Floyd 67-68 and Jimi Hendrix

On record it was more subtle and they championed Psych-pop with influences from The Byrds, Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield with Power Pop and a slice of English Whimsy

They soon became known in the European Psych/alternative market and their first releases were Flexi discs with Magazines/Fanzines

1988/9 ‘Some People Never Learn’, with Bucketfull of Brains Mag UK. ‘The Candleburns’#1 Sound Affects magazine Sweden. ‘Don’t turn away’ #1 Unhinged Fanzine UK. ‘Gibraltar Rock’

Yeah man, i remember this band. They used to play regularly in the london scene in the late 80's/early nineties. They played at the borderline, marquee, alice in wonderland, they supported hawkwind at brixton academy in 1990. Live they sounded like Jimi Hendrix meets Kaleidoscope (UK) Really good. Someone gave me a tape copy of sounds like paintings and it sounded great. . jerez1

Well the man with good taste, Jim Mcgarry of rainbow quartz certainly liked these guys

The tapes still my favourite Chemistry Set release, worth it just for the bell of the Postman rides his bike. I for one would love "sounds like painting" to get a release. CybermansRevenge
