The new (2005) album by Many Bright Things opens with the twenty-second title track, followed by the twenty-minute centerpiece: The Paul Butterfield Band's John Coltrane/Ravi Shankar-inspired jam, "East West." Across its twenty minutes and forty-four seconds no fewer that FIVE guitarists step into the center ring with solos that begin with LARRY DEMYER (Windopane) and include back-to-back fiery electric sermons by NICK SALOMAN (Bevis Frond) and AL SIMONES. Add to all of that Florida blues harpist, Michael "Byrd" Birocco channeling the late Paul Butterfield and you are in for a wild ride. "The Silver Witch" is written and performed by ALISHA SUFIT (Magic Carpet) accompanied by Frank DeFina on a beautiful Stephen Gilchrist F-5 mandolin. A tamboura drone and tabla accompaniment (by PAUL TESCHER) are the foundation for "Minor Parade for 18 Strings" and a duet between STAN DENSKI's acoustic 12-string Guild guitar and PAUL MAJOR's lead electric. This project consists of McKay drummer Ray Pierle, multi-instrumentalist Stan Denski and Windopane guitar player Larry DeMeyer. A long psychedelic fantasy jam in 3 parts, guitars and an amazing percussion vertigo, followed by a cover of Peacepipe's "Lazy River Blues." An excellent release. CD adds 3 unreleased bonus tracks.
